Product Description |
This hose reel cart is the granddaddy of all the Ames reel carts: it's bigger, better, has more features, and is more expensive than any of its hose cart brethren. For starters, it can accommodate up to 250 feet of garden hose, nearly enough to cover a football field. Its base makes it stable; its extra-large 8-inch wheels make for a better, more maneuverable ride; and the notches on the handle panel are a fine place to secure loose hose ends. The hose guide arm is an especially nice addition. With the hose fed through the hose guide, you can wind the hose evenly and tangle-free without having to manually keep the muddy hose from piling up on one side of the hub. There's also a deep storage bucket large enough for garden tools, refreshments, and a couple of plants to repot. The handle folds down for easy storage, though not as easily as one might hope. Best of all, however, is the happy fact that this item comes preassembled, and that feature is worth a lot.

Not Good - More work than reeling yourself

Here's something to know about hose reels: When you turn the crank, you want the hose to be pulled in.
You don't want the hose reel to lift off the ground and dragged towards the hose.
If you have a light weight hose reel not attached to anything - like this one, it's going to get pulled away unless you put your foot on it.
Here's another thing to know: If the crank is smaller than the reel, it's actually going to be harder (maybe several times harder) to turn the crank than to pull in the hose. With a long hose (and why would you have a hose reel with a short hose?) that's A LOT OF FORCE to put on this crappy plastic handle. So now you're standing there, trying to reel in the hose with your foot on the base and and your hand on the top handle and your other hand on the crank. So you need one more hand to feed the hose properly onto the reel....
It's a mess. Don't buy this one. I did - for about $30. It's $30 wasted because I'm just going to have to buy another reel.
My hose is only 50'. If yours is longer it'll only be worse.

We've had several of these reels and they are usually poorly made. This one shows some quality and has good capacity.

Do not waste your time buying this plastic hose reel, in the hot Arizona sun this piece of plastic has fallen apart the hose to the wall split the fist week, it leaks water from where the hose connects to the reel and the handle to wind it up is loose. If I had saved the box I would have retuned it. Buy a metal one
great hose reel cart with hose guide

This hose cart is very easy to set up, has an extremely large capacity for hose storage, has a large handle to roll up the hose, and it has a great hose guide, so you don't have to get your hands dirty or wet.
Flimsy

I was happy when this hose cart arrived. It is easy to set up. However, it is very flimsy. With the weight of the hose, the cart was difficult to move around and the handle eventually snapped out of place. This is not a very durable product.
